Hillside Residential Design in the Phoenix Mountain Preserve. We specialize in Custom Residential hillside design
At the heart of one of the most desirable locations in Arizona, this superbly crafted 3600 S.F. contemporary is strategically placed on just less than an acre in Desert Mountain's Eagle Feather 360 neighborhood. The parcel posed many challenges. By far the most difficult challenge was siting the home within the existing topography - with little alteration - while providing optimum city light and mountain vistas. It is a masterful composition of light, space and texture with a rhythmic simplicity. See the photo gallery below.
Camelback Canyon Estates (Before)
By far one of our most challenging projects to date nestled in the heart of the downtown's Roosevelt District, we were tasked with carefully disassembling the rear portion of this 4000 S.F. two story 100 year old Craftsman California Bungalow. The first step as in all of our remodel projects was to meticulously measure and document the existing building and all of it's systems.
Working closely with the Historic Preservation committee, we developed a design that not only met the client's needs but also provided a seamless continuity to the original 1890's architecture.
The second floor - accessed by an exterior steel stair - was never developed as livable space. Albeit one large attic, we faced many challenges to preserve as much of the original structure as possible. Our goal was to meticulously trace down loads to bear on as much of the existing foundation as possible. By doing this, we were able to create a much more open plan on the first floor and bring in more natural light through the open stair tower off the living room.
Once construction started, we were closely involved, providing construction administration services for our client. We resolved many issues that were discovered during the demolition process to assure that the plans were followed to the letter. See the transformation below!
One of the oldest neighborhoods in Phoenix (with its period of significance between 1895 - 1930), the Roosevelt District has under gone a revival in recent times. From Fillmore Street north to McDowell Road, and Central Avenue west to Seventh Avenue the Roosevelt Historic District in 1983 was one of the first to gain historic status.
Some of its most notable residents were Baron Goldwater (father of the late Senator Barry Goldwater) and Arizona's first congressman Carl Hayden
